Capitol Riots, FBI, Washington D.C., Donald Trump, Conspiracy Theories

Washington D.C.: A new report from the Justice Department’s watchdog has cleared the air about the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021. It states that none of the thousands of protesters were undercover FBI agents. This finding is a big deal, especially for those who have been pushing conspiracy theories about the FBI being involved.

The report shows that while there were about 26 confidential sources in the area, none were authorized to enter the Capitol. This is likely to keep the conspiracy theories alive, even though the facts say otherwise.

Interestingly, the FBI had some sources observing domestic terror suspects that day. Four of those sources did enter the Capitol, but they weren’t supposed to. The report also pointed out that the FBI didn’t do a good job of gathering intelligence beforehand, which could have helped them prepare better.

Despite the chaos, the FBI did recognize the potential for violence leading up to the event. They took some steps to manage the situation, but it seems they were more in a supporting role rather than leading the charge.

Since the riots, over 1,500 people have faced charges, all fueled by Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was rigged. Trump himself has been charged with conspiracy and obstruction but has plans to grant pardons to those involved in the riots once he takes office again.

He mentioned that he would look into pardons on a case-by-case basis, especially for those he considers non-violent. It’s a wild situation, and it looks like the fallout from that day is far from over.
