Sydney: So, you know that Boxing Day tradition of cleaning up Bronte Beach? Well, it was in full swing this year after a wild Christmas party left the place looking like a disaster zone.

The cleanup crew was out there for hours, picking up all sorts of rubbish left behind by partygoers who had a bit too much fun in their festive gear. Locals were pretty annoyed about the mess, to say the least.

As the sun came up, the beach was covered in litter, and the workers were hustling to get it back to normal. The Mayor of Waverley, Will Nemesh, was on-site, making sure everything was sorted out as quickly as possible.

Residents have been vocal about how bad the situation has gotten over the years. They called it a “disgrace” and a “nightmare,” which is pretty harsh but understandable given the mess.

This year, the council tried to be proactive by adding more bins and having extra police around, but some locals felt it still wasn’t enough. They said the cleaning crew looked overwhelmed by the sheer amount of trash.

One local even called out the beachgoers for being “full grots” for not even trying to use the bins. But not everyone was upset; some residents appreciated the quicker cleanup compared to last year.

Even though the cleanup was faster this time, Councillor Joshua Spicer reminded everyone that there’s still more work to do. A lifeguard on duty mentioned it was the busiest he’s ever seen Bronte Beach.

With all the gatherings during Christmas, waste tends to pile up, and it’s a real challenge for councils and waste services. They’re doing their best, but it’s a good reminder for everyone to be mindful of their waste.

On a brighter note, despite the chaos, police reported no arrests, and the Mayor noted there was minimal antisocial behavior this year. However, one guy did end up in the hospital after a cliff-jumping mishap.
