London: Commuters are really feeling the heat at Blackhorse Road station. The escalator’s been shut down for maintenance, and it’s causing some serious delays. People are stuck in long lines trying to get to the platforms.
Transport for London (TfL) says this is all part of a planned maintenance program. They’re taking one escalator out of service at a time, but it’s still a hassle. This work is expected to drag on until late June.
Stella Creasy, the local MP, even shared a video on social media showing the chaos. She called it a ‘nightmare’ and is pushing TfL for a meeting to discuss the situation.
For safety, TfL has decided that the other escalator will only go up during this time. One commuter vented on Facebook, saying they’d rather avoid the station until August. Can you blame them?
Others chimed in, calling the service ‘diabolical’ and questioning why the working escalator isn’t set to go down to help the crowd. But TfL insists it’s a safety measure.
A spokesperson from TfL explained that the closure is necessary for essential maintenance to improve safety and efficiency. They’re asking folks to travel during off-peak hours or use alternative routes.
For those who can’t manage the 89 steps down to the platforms, TfL suggests taking the 230 bus to Walthamstow Central or the 123 and 230 buses to Tottenham Hale, which are both step-free.
