Edinburgh: So, it looks like Nicola Sturgeon and Peter Murrell have called it quits. She shared the news on social media, saying they’ve decided to end their marriage.
In her Instagram post, she mentioned it was a tough decision. They’ve been separated for a while now, and she felt it was time to let everyone know what’s been going on.
Despite the split, she emphasized that they still care for each other. It’s clear this isn’t an easy time for either of them.
Things have been pretty intense lately, especially with the police investigation into the SNP’s finances. Last April, Peter was charged with embezzlement related to party funds.
He was arrested back in April 2023 but was released without any charges. Then in June, Nicola was also questioned by the police but was let go without charges too. She’s always maintained she did nothing wrong.
Nicola has described the whole situation as “traumatic.” She never expected her husband’s arrest would be part of her life story.
Police Scotland has been looking into the SNP’s finances since July 2021 after some complaints about how donations were being used. There’s been a lot of talk about over £660,000 in donations meant for a new independence referendum campaign.
