Derry: This weekend, Northern Ireland is bracing for some serious traffic jams. Farmers are planning to roll out hundreds of tractors into town centres to protest new tax rules. It’s going to be quite the sight!

The Ulster Farmers’ Union is leading the charge on January 25, with rallies happening across all six counties. They’re particularly upset about changes to inheritance tax that could hit family farms hard.

According to the Parades Commission, they expect around 400 tractors at each of the seven protests. Derry city is set to see a big convoy right in the bustling city centre, which should definitely grab some attention.

Police are already warning folks about potential traffic issues in Derry. The convoy will start at 2 PM from Temple Road and will make its way through the city before heading back by 4 PM.

Farmers are really pushing for change. A spokesperson for the UFU mentioned that this protest is part of a bigger plan to highlight how these tax changes could hurt family farms and food production in the UK.

UFU president William Irvine is urging all members to join in and make their voices heard. He stressed that nearly half of Northern Ireland’s family farms could be affected by these tax changes, and they want the government to take notice.

So, if you’re in Derry or any of the other towns where these rallies are happening, be prepared for some delays. The farmers are determined to make their point, and it looks like they’re ready to keep the pressure on the government.
