Tooting: St George’s Hospital is looking to set up a new center for kidney patients. This is part of a big plan to improve healthcare in the area.

If everything goes well with the council, this new renal unit could really change the game for kidney treatment in South West London and Surrey. Right now, the services at St George’s and St Helier Hospital aren’t cutting it. They’ve been underfunded for ages, and it shows.

The new unit would be built where a car park used to be, and it’s going to be a six-story building. It’ll have 89 beds, including special ones for patients who need more care. Plus, there will be 24 dialysis stations and even a nice garden for staff and visitors to chill in.

The idea is to bring all the kidney care experts together in one place. This way, they can provide round-the-clock care for patients who need it most. It’ll also open up chances for patients to join clinical trials, which is pretty cool.

The council thinks this project is a great idea and has recommended it for approval. They believe it’s a much-needed boost for healthcare in Wandsworth. The final decision will be made on January 14, so fingers crossed!

This plan is part of a larger strategy to upgrade the hospital over the next decade. Exciting times ahead for kidney care in Tooting!
