NHS England refuses to release the full report on Valdo Calocane’s care, citing patient privacy concerns despite families’ requests.

A summary of the report will be available soon. However, the full report will remain confidential due to patient privacy laws. Only Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation Trust will see the complete document. Other mental health trusts will only get a summary.
Calocane was sentenced after killing students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, along with caretaker Ian Coates. He also tried to harm three others during the attacks in June 2023. Medical evidence showed he had paranoid schizophrenia, leading to a manslaughter conviction.
Families are urging NHS England to publish the full report. They feel it’s crucial for public safety. An NHS spokesperson stated that these reports follow strict confidentiality rules. The families are also calling for a public inquiry into the attacks, which Prime Minister Keir Starmer has promised. They want it to be a statutory inquiry to ensure witnesses can be compelled to testify.
