Lancashire: The NHS is sounding the alarm as temperatures are about to take a nosedive. They’re really stressing the need for everyone, especially those who are vulnerable, to be careful.
Kids, the elderly, and folks with ongoing health issues like heart or respiratory problems need to pay extra attention. The cold can really mess with their health.
Lindsey Dickinson from the NHS says staying warm is key. It helps keep away colds and more serious stuff like heart attacks and strokes. The cold weather can make existing health problems worse, too.
Last winter, a ton of people ended up calling for help after slipping and falling. Over 86,000 calls were made to the North West Ambulance Service, with many happening when it was really cold.
With the chill comes the risk of ice and snow, so it’s smart to be cautious. Dr. Dickinson suggests only heading out during the day and getting help from friends or family to clear paths.
She also recommends wearing shoes with good grip, keeping your home warm, and sipping on hot drinks to stay cozy. It’s all about staying safe and warm this winter!
