Newton Aycliffe: Just last week, 83-year-old Brian Nichol kicked off his first weekly lunch club for pensioners. He took five folks out for a meal, and it was a hit!

Brian, a retired photographer, reached out on social media, inviting local pensioners to join him for a meal. He even offered to cover the bill and drive them home afterward.

The response was amazing! People were quick to thank him for his kind gesture, calling it “lovely.” It’s heartwarming to see such appreciation.

Brian shared with The Northern Echo that he’s been doing charity work for over 25 years and loves it. Last Christmas, he gave every pensioner he met in town £20 to help with their holiday expenses.

Now, he’s focused on this lunch club, though he admits it can be tricky to get pensioners to join in since they’re often quite independent.

He’s grateful for all the support he’s received, saying it’s fantastic to know so many people are behind him in his efforts.

“I really enjoy doing things like this,” he said. “I love giving people whatever I can!”

For next week, Brian plans to take his group to Aycliffe’s golf club. Anyone interested in joining can reach out to him on Facebook.
