London: Newsquest readers have really stepped up, donating nearly £2,800 to support the NSPCC and its Childline service. This money is crucial for helping young people get the support they need.

Along with cash donations, readers also bought gifts from special Amazon wish lists for NSPCC hubs across the UK. It’s heartwarming to see such community spirit!

Did you know that a child reaches out to Childline every 45 seconds? Just £20 can help answer calls from five kids who are in desperate need of help.

Maria Neophytou, the acting CEO of NSPCC, expressed her gratitude, saying that every donation truly makes a difference. She highlighted how important it is for the charity to have support to prevent abuse and assist families in need.

Over the past year, Newsquest staff have been busy baking, cycling, hiking, and running in various events, raising over £27,400. More than 55 employees also volunteered their time to help the charity.

Maria added that the partnership with Newsquest has been fantastic, helping to shine a light on the amazing work done by their practitioners and volunteers across the UK.

Henry Faure-Walker, the CEO of Newsquest, shared his delight in supporting the NSPCC and how proud he is of the readers and staff for their contributions over the last year.

Loneliness is a big issue for many kids today. Thousands reach out to Childline for help, especially when feeling isolated.

Last year, the NSPCC provided nearly 5,000 counselling sessions for young people struggling with loneliness. Many kids feel this way due to moving, bullying, or seeing friends having fun online.

Shaun Friel, the Childline Director, said it’s heartbreaking to see so many young people feeling lonely, especially during the winter months when these feelings can intensify.

Childline is there for kids, available by phone at 0800 1111 or online through their chat service.

Small businesses can also make a big impact by joining the NSPCC’s Partners in Business initiative. They’re looking for more businesses to help support children across the UK.

Whether it’s organizing a fundraiser or choosing the NSPCC as their charity of the year, businesses can get expert support and inspiration for up to a year.

Every £50 raised can help support families for two hours, while £500 can fund a helpline practitioner for 22 hours. Last year, 50 businesses raised enough to fund 2,200 Childline sessions.

Nathan Shrubb, the NSPCC Partners in Business manager, mentioned that supporting charities can boost a company’s reputation and make employees proud to work there. They’re eager to welcome more businesses in 2025!
