Newcastle: It’s that time of year again! Restaurants in the city are brightening up January by inviting everyone to enjoy delicious food from around the globe at great prices.

With NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week now in full swing, diners can grab special menus priced at £10, £15, or £20 until Sunday. A total of 112 restaurants are joining in, including the new spot DOOD on the Quayside.

DOOD has taken over the old Charts building, which used to be Flynn’s bar. They’re serving up a tasty Persian and Levantine-inspired menu, offering a starter, main, and side for just £25.

On Monday, Chef Gold, who moved here from Dubai, was busy whipping up two types of kebabs—lamb and chicken. He was using the restaurant’s special mangal grill, a traditional Middle Eastern method that locks in all those yummy flavors.

Jaf Ali, the owner, opened DOOD in November and is excited to show off the menu during Restaurant Week. His other restaurants, Dabbawal and Khai Khai, are regulars at this event, and he loves being part of it.

“We’re thrilled to be involved,” he says. “It really brings the city to life.”

DOOD’s menu and decor are inspired by the ancient Silk Road spice trade. Jaf wants customers to feel connected to local history too. The building itself dates back to the 18th Century when it was used for printing maps for ship voyages.

Now, the old and new blend beautifully: original brick walls meet a vibrant, golden lamp-lit interior. The dining areas have fun names like ‘nomads’ and ‘the merchants’ table.’ Jaf mentions that DOOD is the first Persian restaurant of its kind in Newcastle, showcasing the talents of “one of the best Middle Eastern chefs in the world.”

He also highlights the stunning riverside views, which include the bridges and The Glasshouse across the way. “The location is just amazing,” he adds.

If you’re eager to check out this new gem on the quayside, make sure to book soon, as spots for Restaurant Week are filling up fast. You can see DOOD’s menu and check out all the other participating restaurants and their offers online.
