Newcastle: Street rangers are doing their best to keep the city safe, but they’re facing some serious challenges. Recently, one ranger was attacked by a man who was in a bad state. It’s a tough job, and the threats are all too real.
The incident involved a guy named Callum Goodwin, who was found slumped on the ground. When a ranger tried to check on him, Goodwin flipped out and bit the ranger’s arm. He ended up getting 16 months in jail for that. It’s just wild how some people react.
Mark Sumner, who runs the NE1 team, spoke out about how these rangers are out there every day, making sure the streets are safe. They work hard, 364 days a year, and they really care about the community. But sadly, they often deal with threats and violence.
Fortunately, the ranger who got bitten wasn’t seriously hurt and was back at work the same day. But it’s a reminder of how dangerous their job can be. Mark emphasized that they take any threats seriously and work closely with the police to keep things under control.
In court, it was revealed that Goodwin got angry over a dropped burger and started shouting at the ranger. Things escalated quickly, and he ended up injuring the ranger and even two other people later on. It’s just a shame that some folks can’t handle their anger.
Goodwin’s behavior is unacceptable, and it’s good to see that the justice system is taking it seriously. The rangers are out there doing important work, and they deserve our support. Let’s hope for a safer Newcastle for everyone.
