Newcastle: A beloved cat cafe is closing after almost ten years. Mog on the Tyne opened in May 2015. It was the first cat cafe in the North East. People loved visiting to meet the resident cats while enjoying a drink.
Located in Pudding Chare, the cafe featured cats like Rum, Sybil, and Jaffa. Many visitors came from all over to see these furry friends. The cafe even had a strong social media following.
When the pandemic hit, the cafe had to close. During lockdown, the rescue cats lived with the staff. They shared updates on social media to keep fans informed. After restrictions lifted, the original owner decided to close the cafe due to uncertainty.
Regulars were heartbroken and started crowdfunding to save the cafe. Katie Jane Glazier, the founder, left to pursue a new career. Manager Lara McNeil took over and welcomed many visitors over the years. Sadly, the cafe has now announced its closure.
In a heartfelt social media post, the cafe shared its bittersweet news. They will close on March 2. The owners expressed gratitude for the community’s support and the memories created over the years.
The statement highlighted the joy of being part of the cafe. They reassured everyone that the resident cats will have loving forever homes. The cafe also reminded customers to redeem any vouchers or loyalty cards soon.
They encouraged donations to local cat charities and thanked those who helped keep the cafe open after lockdown. The owners expressed deep appreciation for the community’s kindness and support.
