Birmingham: On New Year’s Day, chaos erupted when a car drove into a crowd. It all started with a fight among a group of about 15 men on Bordesley Street.
Things got out of hand, and a light grey car was aimed at the men around 11:25 PM. But instead of hitting them, it struck two women waiting for a taxi at the Trent Street junction.
The driver sped off, leaving one woman with serious injuries. She was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, while the other woman was taken to Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital.
The West Midlands Ambulance Service responded quickly, sending multiple ambulances and medical teams to the scene. They found two women needing help after the collision.
One woman had serious injuries and was treated on the way to the trauma center. The other had less severe injuries and was taken to a different hospital.
Detective Chief Inspector Jim Mahon from Birmingham Police called the incident an “appalling attack.” He noted that the car was used as a weapon, injuring two innocent women.
He mentioned that the incident might have stemmed from a dispute between two men. There’s also a possibility that another injured man left the scene before help arrived.
