Salford: Exciting news for the city! A new 22-storey apartment building is on the horizon, and it’s set to bring hundreds of homes to the area.
This project, designed by re:shape, focuses on ‘co-living’. Residents will have their own private spaces but can enjoy shared areas for relaxing and dining. Think winter gardens, a gym, and even a pergola!
The shared penthouse and roof terraces are designed to be social hubs, offering amazing views of both Salford and Manchester. If all goes well, there will be 426 homes available for rent.
Located on Worrall Street in Ordsall, close to Manchester city center, the goal is to create a lively riverside community. The plan is to prioritize local residents and key workers first, making sure they have access to these new homes.
When applying, people will be asked about their current living and working situations. Plus, there will be free event and co-working spaces available for everyone, not just residents.
To make things even better, 20% of the homes will be affordable, offered at a 20% discount on market rent. That’s a win for the community!
They’re also planning to enhance the area with new pedestrian links to the River Irwell and widen the riverside walkway. This will help connect people to Peel Park and Salford University, as well as Media City.
If approved, this will be the third co-living tower in Salford, following the first one that got the green light last September and another application submitted in December.
Robbie Nightingale from re:shape mentioned that the vision for this project was shaped by feedback from local residents and businesses during a public consultation.
He expressed excitement about launching Salford’s first co-living scheme, which includes affordable housing options.
Ben Tabiner from Buttress Architects added that this project aims to enhance living experiences and build a strong community.
He sees Worrall Street as a fantastic opportunity to revitalize a key brownfield site along Salford’s riverside, creating a vibrant community through shared living.
Overall, this development promises to enrich Salford’s housing options and foster a sense of belonging for everyone who lives there.
