Plymouth: The new lifeboat operations manager for Plymouth RNLI is Nigel Gray. He feels it’s a privilege to take on this important role. The RNLI is dedicated to saving lives at sea.

Nigel replaces Chris Westall, who led the team for eight years. He started volunteering with Plymouth RNLI as a Launch Authority in May 2021.

Nigel has a strong connection to the sea. He comes from a family of yacht racers and has worked in the marine industry at Princess Yachts. His experience makes him a great fit for this role.

As Lifeboat Operations Manager, Nigel will ensure the station is always ready. He’ll manage daily operations, authorize lifeboat launches, and lead the volunteer team.

Nigel expressed pride in taking over this position. He always knew the lifeboat was there if needed, but thankfully, he never had to use it.

He joined Plymouth RNLI when his yacht racing days slowed down. He sees this new role as a chance to continue the great work Chris has done.

Chris Westall joined Plymouth RNLI in February 2016 and became LOM in 2017. He helped the station stay operational during the COVID-19 pandemic. Chris will continue to volunteer as a Launch Authority.

Chris is happy to pass the role to Nigel, believing he will do a fantastic job. He will still be around to support Nigel when needed.

The Plymouth RNLI team thanks Chris for his leadership and welcomes Nigel to his new role.
