Brampton: A social enterprise focused on maternal mental health has kicked off a new support group right here in Brampton. Happy Mums is the name, and they’re all about helping mothers feel better.
The Brampton group will meet every Thursday from 10 am to 11 am at the Brampton Community Centre. It’s a great chance for mums to come together and share their experiences in a friendly, non-judgmental space.
Whether you have a newborn or a teenager, this group is for you. It’s all about connecting over a warm drink and getting that much-needed peer support.
To make things easier, there will be someone on hand to entertain the kids, so mums can focus on their own well-being for a bit.
Abi Wilson, who coordinates community engagement for Happy Mums in Brampton, expressed her excitement about the new group. She said it’s a place where mothers can be themselves and talk openly about their feelings.
Since starting in 2015, Happy Mums has helped over 100 women each year. Their surveys show that 90% of participants feel better equipped to handle their mental health after joining.
This new group is part of a bigger plan to make maternal mental health support available to more communities, including Wigton, Cockermouth, and Workington.
They’re also looking for volunteers to help out in various roles, like facilitators and helpers.
A 28-year-old member shared her thoughts, saying she often felt out of place at other mum-and-toddler groups, which can be competitive. But Happy Mums is different; it’s a space where you can just be yourself and talk about real feelings.
Lucinda Bray, the managing director, added that Brampton is a fantastic spot for this group. It’s not just for local mums but also for those from nearby areas. They want everyone to know there’s a safe space to find support.
