Camberwell: A mother named Sun’Johnique Delisser is really worried. She hasn’t had heating in her flat for four months, and it’s affecting her three-month-old baby, Aire-Shakari. Poor little guy has been sick since he was born.
Sun’Johnique, 32, has been using electric heaters since October. She’s asked her landlord, Wandle Housing, to fix the heating, but nothing has changed. It’s been a struggle, and she’s feeling the pressure.
She moved into her flat in April 2024, and the heating has been a problem from day one. She’s had parts replaced five times, but still no luck. Every time she thinks help is coming, the appointment gets canceled.
Her son was born with some respiratory issues, and now he’s dealing with a chest infection. Sun’Johnique is stressed out, especially since she’s a new mom trying to manage everything. She’s spending around £300 a month on electricity just to keep warm.
With winter temperatures dropping, she’s worried about how she’ll keep up with those bills. It’s tough enough being a new mom without having to deal with this heating mess. She feels like she’s letting her son down, and honestly, who wouldn’t feel that way?
Before this, she was in temporary housing and had a hard time getting a permanent place. She was bidding for three and a half years, only to find out there was a mix-up with her application. It said she had two kids she didn’t even know about!
After sorting that out, she finally got her current flat, but it’s been a nightmare. She feels like the council just pushed her into this place without checking if it was livable. Wandle Housing has said they’re sorry for her experience and are planning to replace the boiler soon. They’ll also help with her heating costs.
It’s a tough situation, and hopefully, things will get better for her and her baby soon.
