New Monthly Food Market Launches at Sunderland’s Sheepfolds Stables
A new monthly food market will debut at Sheepfolds Stables in Sunderland, featuring local traders and delicious offerings.

Visitors can enjoy a pie from Si King’s PROPA! and other eateries. The Sheepfolds Sunday Market will complement the popular Sunniside Market. It will happen on the second Sunday of each month.
Independent traders will set up stalls in the courtyard and indoor spaces. They’ll offer artisan food, drinks, and locally-made crafts.
The idea for this market came during bad weather last December. Organizers, We Are Local Heroes, faced canceling the last Sunniside event. Sheepfolds Stables offered their space, and it was a hit with traders and visitors.
Chris Jewitt, from We Are Local Heroes, said the last-minute move showed how well a market could work there. They aim to create a close community feel while showcasing local food culture.
Sheepfolds Stables has been revamped with a £4 million investment. It’s now a popular venue for food, drink, and events. Independent operators like The Calabash Tree and Deep North are part of the mix.
By summer, a new footbridge will connect the area to the former Vaux Brewery site.
Nigel Wood, the general manager, mentioned the community vibe at Sheepfolds. Events like this let people enjoy a day out, whether it’s a drink at The Taproom or food from vendors.
The first Sheepfolds Food Market is on Sunday, February 9, from 10 am to 3 pm. Entry is free.
