London: So, there’s been a pretty shocking incident in Covent Garden. Detectives just dropped a new CCTV image of a guy they want to talk to about two assaults. One of the victims is a 70-year-old man who got seriously hurt.
This all went down on October 12 last year, around 10:30 PM. An off-duty cop was just minding his own business when he got punched in the back of the head near the Royal Opera House. Luckily, he wasn’t hurt.
But then, this same guy approached another man in his 70s on King Street. He asked for directions and then just pushed him over. Can you believe that?
The poor guy ended up with a bleed on his brain and had to get 15 stitches. He’s out of the hospital now, but he’s still feeling the effects of what happened.
What’s really unsettling is that these two victims didn’t know each other, and it seems like the attacks were totally random. No one knows why this guy did it.
They’re describing the suspect as a white male, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium build, and he was wearing a black jacket. Last seen running towards Bedford Street.
Police are really hoping someone might recognize him. They’ve put out a fresh appeal for info and shared this new CCTV image of the suspect just before the attacks.
Detective Constable Greg Atkins is asking anyone who saw anything to step forward. He mentioned that it was a busy night in Covent Garden, so there were likely multiple witnesses.
As of now, no one has been arrested, and the investigation is still ongoing. If you have any info, you can call 101 and quote CAD reference 7846/12OCT. Or, if you want to stay anonymous, reach out to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
