New Giant 45-Metre Wind Turbine Planned for Pembrokeshire Area
A new 67-metre wind turbine is set to replace an existing one in Pembrokeshire, aiming to boost local community funding and tackle climate change.

Pembrokeshire: There’s a plan to replace a community wind turbine with a bigger one. This new turbine could really help local groups, having already raised over £76,000.
The Abergwaun Community Turbine Ltd wants to swap the current 45-metre turbine for a taller 67-metre one at Trebover Farm, just south of Fishguard. They think it’ll be a great upgrade.
Transition Bro Gwaun, the parent company, is all about using the income from this turbine to fund projects in Fishguard and Goodwick. They’re focusing on climate change and community resilience.
So far, the profits from the turbine have been split between the company and local farms, with grants totaling £76,036 given out to various community projects. This year alone, they’ve awarded nearly £21,000 to six different initiatives.
However, the planning committee initially recommended refusing the new turbine due to concerns about its visual impact on the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and nearby conservation areas.
But local councillors are pushing for approval. Cllr Jordan Ryan believes it’s a good move for Pembrokeshire, saying a single turbine won’t bother the locals too much.
Other councillors echoed his thoughts, emphasizing the importance of tackling climate change and the economic benefits this project could bring. They understand there might be some visual trade-offs, but they think it’s worth it.
The committee has shown support for the proposal, but it’ll need to come back for another review after a cooling-off period. If it gets the green light again, it’ll go to the full council for a final decision.
