New Forest: The New Forest District Council (NFDC) is rolling out a new waste collection service in three phases, kicking off in June 2025.
Households will get a black-lidded 180-litre wheelie bin for rubbish, a green-lidded 240-litre recycling bin, and both indoor and outdoor caddies for food waste.
You can check out demonstration bins at NFDC’s info offices in Lymington, Lyndhurst, New Milton, and Ringwood.
The new system will have recycling and rubbish collected on alternate weeks, while food waste will be picked up weekly.
So, one week you’ll put out your general waste, and the next week it’ll be recycling. To help kick things off, they’ll provide one roll of caddy liners for food waste.
Glass collections will still happen every four weeks using the black glass collection box.
The phased rollout starts in June 2025, with the second phase in October 2025 and the final phase in March 2026.
Residents in the first phase will receive a letter and leaflet starting in February, and a postcode checker will be available on the council’s website soon.
NFDC will also provide guidance on using the new bins and caddies, along with delivery schedules and any changes to collection days.
Cllr Geoffrey Blunden, who oversees environment and sustainability, shared that this new service will help recycle more, separate food waste, and cut down on what gets thrown away.
He emphasized that it’s a big step towards a more sustainable future for the district.
The council is dedicated to supporting residents during this transition and ensuring the new service works smoothly for everyone.
For more details on the upcoming changes, residents are encouraged to check out the council’s website.
Overall, this new service aims to boost recycling efforts, reduce waste, and contribute to a greener future for the New Forest district.
