Rowsley: A local hospitality business has taken over the famous Peacock at Rowsley. This hotel has been a beloved spot for over 400 years. It was previously owned by Lord Edward Manners and is now in the hands of Longbow Venues. All current staff will stay on board.
The Peacock started as a manor house in 1652. It’s known for its warm atmosphere and excellent service. Over the years, many celebrities have enjoyed their stay here. The hotel boasts four Silver AA stars and three AA rosettes, making it a top choice in Derbyshire.
Guests can enjoy 15 cozy bedrooms, a bar with premium wines and local ales, and a beautiful riverfront garden designed by Arne Maynard. Lord Edward Manners expressed pride in the hotel’s legacy and excitement for its future under Longbow Venues.
Plans for the Peacock include reintroducing Sunday lunches and afternoon tea. The interiors will be refreshed to keep the historic charm while creating a light and airy feel. They also aim to strengthen ties with local suppliers and continue using produce from the Haddon Estate.
Rob Hattersley, managing director of Longbow Venues, shared his personal connection to the Peacock. He emphasized their commitment to maintaining high standards while welcoming more guests for coffee, drinks, or dining experiences.
Róbert Ciulinaru will join as general manager, bringing experience from Michelin-starred restaurants. Head chef Dan Smith, who has been with the Peacock for 18 years, will refine his vision with support from Longbow’s new area chef, Tom Marr. The kitchen will also undergo remodeling.
Longbow Venues has a strong team, including operations director Stephen Atkinson and group executive chef Adrian Gagea, who trained under Raymond Blanc. The freehold of the Peacock is being acquired by Coverland UK, which will lease it to Longbow Venues.
The Peacock at Rowsley is now the fifth venue for Longbow. Work has already begun, and the hotel is set to reopen in March.
