Brooklyn: The Nets and Warriors are working on a trade that would send Dennis Schröder to Golden State. In return, the Nets will get De’Anthony Melton’s expiring contract and a couple of draft picks.
Brooklyn is also throwing in a second-round pick to sweeten the deal, getting back three second-round picks in return. It’s a bit of a chess game, right?
Both players will be eligible to be traded starting December 15 since they just signed new contracts. Schröder, who’s 31, is having a solid season, averaging 18.4 points per game. He’s been a key player for the Nets, who are currently sitting at 10-15.
The Warriors, on the other hand, are looking to boost their offense, which is ranked 14th in the league. They’re hoping Schröder can help them climb the ranks in the Western Conference.
Melton, who’s 26, had a rough start to the season with an average of 10.3 points before suffering an ACL injury that will keep him out for the rest of the year. Tough break for him!
This trade could just be the beginning for the Nets. They’ve exceeded expectations so far and were initially thought to be in the running for a top pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. Names like Dorian Finney-Smith and Cam Johnson are also being tossed around as potential trade bait as the deadline approaches on February 6.
