Forres: A local history group is kicking off an exciting events program. Two events are already sold out, showing great interest from the community.
Nelson’s Tower will open at night for the first time. This is part of a busy schedule from Forres Heritage Trust, which includes talks, exhibitions, and tours.
The first event featured a talk on Forres Railways. It was so popular that some people couldn’t get in without a reservation.
Peter Haworth, a trustee, coordinates the volunteers and organizes the winter talks. He mentioned the great start to the year with high interest in events.
Nelson’s Tower will be open daily from 2-4 PM starting March 29 until September. Visitors suggested the evening openings to enjoy the night views and sky.
Some team members tried the evening opening and found it amazing. If visitors love it, more evening dates may be added.
FHT also manages the Tolbooth, where other events take place. Peter noted there’s at least one event each month, with fascinating talks lined up.
Upcoming speakers include Fiona Lockhart, who will discuss life as a Border Reiver, and rescue coordinator Robbie Roberts, who will talk about survival.
They’re also excited to welcome back Molly Carmichael, who will speak about Sir Alexander Grant. She previously visited for the Grant Park 100 event.
FHT opened the Tolbooth to tourists in 2022. Visitors can explore the old police office, cells, and courtroom, plus enjoy a trip up the clock tower.
Chairman George Alexander praised the dedicated volunteers who help preserve the building. It’s definitely worth a visit!
