Chell: So, there was this wild scene in Chell, North Staffordshire. A guy named Slawomir Szewerniak got really drunk and ended up attacking his girlfriend. It all kicked off around 10:30 PM on December 16, 2023, and things got messy fast.
According to the prosecutor, he even used a wooden garden chair to hit her. Can you believe that? It spilled out onto the street, and when the police showed up, he didn’t go down without a fight. He resisted arrest, and three officers ended up getting hurt trying to subdue him.
His girlfriend was left with a swollen cheek and a bruised eye. One officer had a scratch on his leg, and another had a cut on his hand. Szewerniak, who’s 45 and has no prior convictions, was clearly under the influence that night.
He pleaded guilty to a bunch of charges, including assault and resisting arrest. He admitted they had a fight that spilled outside, and he even grabbed her by the neck. Not cool at all. He tried to run from the cops but didn’t get far.
His lawyer mentioned that he and his girlfriend are still together, and she didn’t even call the police herself. They’re both struggling with alcohol, and it sounds like their neighbors had just had enough of the noise.
In court, it came out that Szewerniak has been out of work for three years due to an injury and has been leaning on alcohol for comfort. The magistrates gave him a two-year community order, which includes some rehab and a program to help him with his drinking.
He’s also got to pay some compensation to the officers involved. It’s a tough situation, but hopefully, he can turn things around.
