Fenton: A man named Malcolm Williams is having a tough time with the pub across the street. He says the drinkers at the Pool Dole have been harassing him after he raised concerns about noise and other issues.
Malcolm claims that since the pub reopened in April 2023, he and his wife have faced constant trouble. He even has 57 CCTV clips showing all sorts of unruly behavior, like swearing and what looks like drug deals happening right outside their home.
In a statement, he expressed how hard it is to live there now. He mentioned that they can’t even enjoy their garden or keep their windows open because of the noise and drunken antics. It’s really taken a toll on their quality of life.
He feels like their home has lost its value and is practically unsellable because of the pub’s activities. The Pool Dole is allowed to stay open late, which doesn’t help the situation.
Staffordshire Police are backing Malcolm’s call for a review of the pub’s license, suggesting stricter rules around CCTV. They noted an incident where someone removed recording equipment after a reported assault, which is pretty alarming.
Some local residents, however, are defending the pub, saying it’s become a community hub and has created jobs. They argue that the complaints don’t reflect the overall feelings of the neighborhood.
Admiral Taverns, the pub’s owner, said they’re working with local authorities on the licensing review but didn’t want to comment further since a hearing is coming up.
The city council will discuss the license review soon, and it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out.
