Beed: Recently, Supriya Sule, the NCP (SP) leader, made headlines by demanding that Walmik Karad be charged under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. This comes after Karad’s arrest in connection with the murder of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh.

Deshmukh was tragically kidnapped and killed back in December, allegedly because he stood up against extortion attempts related to a windmill project. Sule emphasized that if we want investors to come to the area, we need to put a stop to extortion.

Karad, who is closely linked to Maharashtra minister Dhananjay Munde, is facing increasing pressure to be implicated in the murder case. Sule clarified that her concerns are not personal against Karad but rather about the broader issue of crime and financial misconduct.

She also called for a thorough investigation into both the sarpanch’s murder and the death of a Dalit youth in judicial custody. Sule pointed out that Karad was appointed to lead a government scheme in Beed, which raises further questions about accountability.

In a related note, the brother of the late sarpanch recently withdrew a petition aimed at removing Minister Munde from his position, which had claimed Munde’s ties to the criminal elements involved in the murder. The petition was retracted due to discomfort with its contents, according to the lawyer.
