New York: The NBA Christmas tradition has been around since 1947, and it’s a big deal. Everyone wants to be part of it. Joe Dumars, the NBA’s Executive VP, says it’s an honor for players and teams to play on this special day.
This year marks the 77th Christmas Day games. The first ones were back in 1947, and they’ve kept the tradition alive ever since. Fans can catch all the games on ABC and ESPN.
So, what’s on the schedule? The day kicks off with the San Antonio Spurs facing the New York Knicks at noon. Then, the Minnesota Timberwolves take on the Dallas Mavericks at 2:30 PM. The Philadelphia 76ers will battle the Boston Celtics at 5 PM, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers against the Golden State Warriors at 8 PM. Finally, the Denver Nuggets will face the Phoenix Suns at 10:30 PM.
Dumars mentioned some exciting matchups this year. We’ve got last year’s Western Conference Finals rematch, Wemby making his Christmas debut, and the classic rivalry between the Sixers and Celtics. Plus, who can forget the showdown between Steph and LeBron?
The Knicks have a long history of playing on Christmas, with 56 games under their belt. Victor Wembanyama is making his debut, and he’s already made a name for himself. Last time he faced the Knicks, he scored 40 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. But the Knicks’ Jalen Brunson also had a standout game with 61 points.
Wemby is a strong contender for Defensive Player of the Year, and he’ll be tested against the Knicks, who have the second-best offense in the league. It’ll be interesting to see how he handles the pressure at Madison Square Garden.
Next up, the Timberwolves and Mavericks are set for a rematch of last year’s Western Conference Finals. This game features Anthony Edwards, a rising star, going up against Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. The Mavericks are looking strong, but the Timberwolves have a solid defense that could give them a run for their money.
Then we have the 76ers and Celtics. This matchup is highly anticipated, especially with the Celtics looking to defend their title. The 76ers have had some injury struggles, but if their key players are healthy, they could put up a good fight.
And of course, there’s the classic LeBron vs. Curry matchup. Both have had incredible careers and will face off again on Christmas Day. They’ve both won championships recently, but their teams are trying to find their rhythm in a tough Western Conference.
Finally, the Nuggets and Suns are set to clash in what’s becoming a heated rivalry. With star players like Nikola Jokic and Kevin Durant, this game promises to be a thrilling end to the Christmas lineup.
