Melbourne: Police are trying to track down about 20 guys who showed an anti-Semitic sign at Victoria’s Parliament House. This happened on a Friday evening, and it really upset a lot of people.

The group, all masked and dressed in black, rolled out a banner just before 7 PM. When the police showed up, they quickly scattered, almost like they were just there for a photo op.

Acting Superintendent Kelly Walker mentioned that the public was really angry about what they saw. It was Christmas time, and people were yelling at the men to leave.

As the police arrived, the group took off into Fitzroy Gardens, but they managed to identify one guy. Walker called the sign “disgusting” and said it was a top priority for the police to find these men.

She expressed how terrible it was, saying the whole thing seemed aimed at causing unrest. Victoria Police strongly condemned this behavior and the offensive sign.

Walker noted that there could be various charges, from offensive behavior to more serious ones. They plan to consult with the Director of Public Prosecutions about the next steps.

In a video from the scene, one man, who called himself a white supremacist, claimed they were protesting against new laws that might limit their rights to protest.

Last month, the Victorian Government introduced new legislation aimed at tackling hate speech and promoting social cohesion, which will be discussed in the New Year.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan condemned the incident, saying it was unacceptable for masked Nazis to make Jewish people feel unsafe in the state. She emphasized that anti-Semitism is on the rise globally and vowed to fight against it.

Allan stated that they want to make it impossible for Nazis to operate in Victoria, not just by banning their symbols but also by making their hateful actions a crime.
