Wimbledon: On Sunday, the Wimbledon Common Nature Club had a fun session all about owls. They focused on what Barn Owls eat, and it was super interesting!
The morning kicked off with a Q&A about owls. Kids learned tons of cool facts about their families, habits, and where they live. It was a real eye-opener!
After that, everyone got to dissect some Barn Owl pellets. They found all sorts of things like fur and even the skeletons of rats, mice, and birds. How cool is that?
Club leader Auriel Glanville shared how important it is to protect these amazing birds. She talked about how they’re threatened by habitat loss and climate change. It’s a big deal!
She also mentioned ways we can help, like protecting trees for nesting and putting up nest boxes. Plus, using adhesive strips on windows can stop them from flying into glass.
The next session is on February 2, focusing on “Life Under the Microscope.” It’s for kids aged 6-14 and is free, though donations are welcome. Sounds like a blast!
If anyone wants to volunteer or join in, they can reach out to the club. It’s a great way to get involved and learn more about nature!
