Cardiff: So, it turns out potholes are causing quite a stir lately. Admiral Car Insurance just reported that claims for pothole damage are at an all-time high. Can you believe it? The numbers have shot up like crazy over the last nine years.

In fact, claims in 2024 were 14% higher than in 2023, which was already a record year. It’s wild! Overall, the claims have nearly tripled in that time.

Interestingly, most of these claims happen between January and March. That’s when drivers really start to notice those pesky potholes.

Adam Gavin from Admiral mentioned that January 15th is National Pothole Day. He said anyone who drives knows that annoying ‘clunk’ when you hit a pothole.

And it’s not just a minor hassle; hitting a pothole can really mess up your car. It can damage your tyres, wheels, and even your steering.

If your steering gets messed up, it can make your car hard to control, which is pretty scary.

Plus, the average cost of fixing pothole damage has gone up by 20% this year. That’s likely because cars are getting more high-tech and repairs are just getting pricier.
