Plymouth: Firefighters from Newton Abbot rushed to the scene of a fire that completely destroyed a National Express coach. It was quite a sight, with flames engulfing the vehicle.
The incident happened on Thursday around 3 PM in the Honicknowle area. Crews from six other stations joined in to help tackle the blaze. It was a big response!
According to the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, they think the fire was accidental. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the coach was left about 80 percent damaged.
Newton Abbot’s Environmental Protection Unit was also called in to deal with a diesel leak from the coach’s tank. They worked hard to clean up the mess and prevent any further issues.
A spokesperson from the fire station mentioned they used special absorbent pads to manage the diesel runoff. They were really focused on keeping the drains clear.
As the situation unfolded, the EPU team stayed on site to assist with the recovery of the vehicle and to ensure the road was safe for everyone.
