Najee Harris Takes Responsibility for Steelers’ Fumble Misattribution
Najee Harris insists the fumble in the Steelers game was his fault, not Russell Wilson’s, despite official stats saying otherwise
Najee Harris, Russell Wilson, Pittsburgh, NFL, Fumble
The fumble happened when Wilson tossed the ball to Najee Harris, who just dropped it. Darius Slay from the Eagles jumped on it, and that was that. The NFL even has a video titled “Najee Harris’ lost fumble ends a promising Steelers’ drive.”
When reporters told Harris that the stats showed Wilson lost the fumble, he was pretty surprised. He said, “I wasn’t? That’s crazy.” He believes you should always hold yourself accountable. He added, “That was all on me. I don’t know why they put that on Russ, but that was on me.”
So, why did they put the fumble on Wilson? It’s all about how the NFL keeps stats. If there’s a mix-up during a handoff or lateral, the last player who had the ball gets the blame. Since Harris dropped the lateral, it went down as Wilson’s fumble, even though everyone knows it was Harris’s mistake.
This just shows that official stats can be a bit off sometimes. The league wants to keep things consistent, so they stick to the rules. But it can be frustrating when everyone knows the truth, and the stats don’t reflect it.
