Narooma: So, there’s this weird situation happening on the southern beaches of New South Wales. Strange ball-shaped objects have been washing up, and no one knows where they came from.

The Environment Protection Authority got involved after these odd debris balls were spotted on 1080 Beach and Pooles Beach at Mystery Bay. This all kicked off on December 11, and it’s been a bit of a head-scratcher since.

Authorities have been collecting these mysterious balls for testing. They were reported to be scattered over a 200-meter stretch of beach, and they come in different sizes and shapes.

Some staff from the National Parks and Wildlife Service checked out nearby beaches and found about 20 of these balls just at Pooles Beach. They even put up signs to warn beachgoers about the contamination.

It turns out that more of these debris balls were found on six other beaches near Dalmeny and Narooma between December 11 and 17. The EPA has advised people to steer clear of these strange objects.

This isn’t the first time these balls have shown up. Earlier this year, they were spotted at Coogee Beach and then at several other popular spots like Bondi and Bronte.

After some testing, the EPA thinks these objects might come from a source that releases mixed waste. But the exact origin is still a mystery since they don’t have any source samples to compare.

They’re also waiting on test results from debris balls found on Kiama beaches last month and Silver Beach at Kurnell earlier this month. It’s definitely a puzzling situation!
