Glasgow, Scotland, Restaurants, Cafes, Food
Glasgow: There are some spots in the city that deserve more love. These places aren’t chasing Michelin stars. They just serve great food that you’d recommend to friends.
From street food pasta to vegan biscuits, here are my favorite underrated spots.
Seven21
721 Pollokshaws Road
This cozy restaurant in Strathbungo is perfect for a relaxed dinner. They offer a tasting menu that’s not intimidating. Enjoy dishes like red prawn curry and duck breast for £45. Lunchtime is even better with a £20 four-course menu. Don’t miss their special pasta nights!
Yiamas
16-20 Bath Street
Yiamas serves one of the best gyros in Glasgow. Choose from chicken, pork, or plant-based options in a soft pita. Add sides like Spanakopitas or Keftedes for a filling meal.
Toshie’s Community Cafe
846 Garscube Road
Craving homemade soup and a sandwich? Toshie’s in Maryhill is the place to go. It’s part of a charity tackling food poverty. They offer affordable meals and community support. Enjoy a toastie by the window and relax for the afternoon.
Pakistani Street Food
412 Victoria Road
This tiny spot on Victoria Road is easy to miss. Don’t! Their chicken kebab wraps and spicy biryanis are highlights. Perfect for a picnic in Queen’s Park during summer.
Non-Viet
534 Sauchiehall Street
Non-Viet has multiple locations, but the city center branch is often overlooked. Enjoy friendly service and a menu full of Vietnamese flavors. Try the tofu summer rolls and Pho noodle soup. It’s a great pre-theatre spot too!
The Prancing Stag
1A Ashwood Gardens
Tucked away in Jordanhill, The Prancing Stag feels like a dinner party. They serve hearty Scottish dishes like venison and scallops. It’s a bit pricier but perfect for special occasions.
Piatto
44 Skirving Street
Piatto is famous for its pasta, and the queues show it! My favorite is the Rustica sauce with sundried tomatoes. Their sister venue, Sotto Deli, offers great sandwiches too.
Plant Blonde
61-63 Hyndland Street
Nicola Sturgeon praised the empire biscuits here. They’re rich, buttery, and plant-based. You can also find vegan cakes and coffees at Lush on Buchanan Street.
Damasqino
94 Saltmarket
Damasqino might just have the best chicken shawarma wrap. It’s salty, spicy, and packed with flavor. Enjoy a full Lebanese feast with houmous and knafeh for dessert.
