Tehran: So, it turns out Elon Musk helped get an Italian journalist out of jail in Iran. Cecilia Sala, just 29, was locked up in Evin prison on some pretty shaky charges. She was there while on a reporting trip, and it looked like the Iranian government was using her as a bargaining chip.

Her boyfriend, Daniele Ranieri, reached out to Musk through a contact. He heard there was a way to connect with Iranian diplomats through Musk. It’s wild, right? Musk then had a secret meeting with the Iranian ambassador to the UN.

Just days after Cecilia was freed, Italy let go of an Iranian engineer who was in jail. The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, said it was all part of a complicated diplomatic dance involving both Iran and the U.S.

Meloni and Musk seem to have a good relationship, and she even hugged Cecilia when she got back. Cecilia flew to the U.S. and met with Donald Trump, which raised eyebrows back home. People were wondering if she was there to help her own case.

After Cecilia’s release, Musk reportedly reached out to the Iranian ambassador again. It’s all a bit of a whirlwind, and while some Iranian officials dismissed Musk’s involvement as a “media fantasy,” it’s clear he’s got some serious connections.
