Murton Trumpeter’s Death on County Durham Road Ruled Suicide by Inquest
An inquest has determined that the death of trumpeter Lucien Guest was a suicide

During the inquest, it was revealed that Lucien was seen on the wrong side of the railings on a bridge before he fell onto the road and was hit by a van.
He had moved to Birmingham University in 2019 to pursue music but dropped out after feeling isolated during the pandemic. His mental health took a hit, and he struggled with depression.
Just before his death, he had been in touch with his family, making their loss even more shocking. His mother, Susan, shared that he seemed happy the day before, joking and laughing with her.
On the day he died, he texted about some issues with his partner and had plans to visit his grandmother. Sadly, the next thing they knew, police were at their door with the heartbreaking news.
Lucien had left a voice note for his loved ones, which was found by the police later. He had been seeing doctors for about 18 months due to his struggles and had recently gone through a breakup.
A post-mortem showed he died from a traumatic brain injury, with no drugs or alcohol in his system. The driver of the van, Roaimundas Vasilis, said he didn’t see Lucien until it was too late.
Lucien’s family described him as a unique and cheerful person who loved music. He started playing the trumpet at nine, inspired by his grandparents.
Unfortunately, the isolation he felt at university led him to lose his passion for music. His family did their best to support him, but he felt lost and like he was letting them down.
The coroner recorded a conclusion of suicide, expressing condolences to Lucien’s parents. His family will forever cherish the memories of their beloved Lucien.
