Greater Manchester: A murder investigation is now in full swing after the body of a missing woman named Mariann was found. She was from Hungary and had been missing for a while.
Police have arrested a 61-year-old man on suspicion of murder. He’s currently being questioned, and it sounds like they’re really digging into this case.
Mariann was last seen in Bolton on December 14, and it’s been nine days of searching since then. The police even made public appeals in both English and Hungarian to help find her.
Special teams were brought in to assist with the search. Mariann, who was around 55 years old, didn’t speak much English and was considered “high-risk.”
While they haven’t officially identified the body yet, Mariann’s family has been notified and are getting support from officers.
Ch Supt Helen Critchley from GMP’s Bolton district expressed her sadness over the situation, especially so close to Christmas. She mentioned that they were hoping for a different outcome.
Now, the police are focused on figuring out what happened to Mariann and are committed to seeking justice for her. They also thanked the local community in Bolton for their help during the search.
