Mumbai: Tilak Junior College in Nerul recently hosted the Mumbai Zonal Level Interdistrict Volleyball Tournament and Selection Trials. It was a big day on January 7, 2025, with the Maharashtra Volleyball Association teaming up with the college.
Sixteen teams from different areas like Mumbai City, Thane, and Raigad came together to compete in the Under-18 and Under-21 categories. It was exciting to see so much talent on display!
The main goal of the tournament was to pick the best players to represent the Mumbai Zone at the upcoming Maharashtra State Volleyball Championship in Nagpur, set for January 16-18, 2025.
The event kicked off with a lovely lamp-lighting ceremony, which was a nice touch to symbolize new beginnings. Some important guests were there too, including Dr. Ajit Kurup and Dhananjay Vanmali, who added a lot of prestige to the occasion.
Dhananjay Vanmali spoke to the young athletes, saying this tournament is a great chance for them to show off their skills and teamwork. He believes the selected players will make the Mumbai Zone proud.
Dr. Heena Samani, the Principal, also shared her thoughts, emphasizing the college’s commitment to developing sports talent under Dr. Kurup’s guidance. It was clear that Tilak Junior College is all about balancing academics and sports.
