Mumbai: The Western Railway is stepping up its game at Bandra Terminus. They’re adding three new pit lines, which is a big deal for train maintenance. This upgrade will help keep the Vande Bharat trains in top shape.
An official mentioned that these new lines will be ready to maintain Vande Bharat trains, which is great since the only maintenance spot for them in the Mumbai Central division is at Mumbai Central itself.
The new pit lines will really boost how efficiently Bandra Terminus operates. They’ll be set up to handle both Vande Bharat and regular trains, which means quicker service and better quality overall.
Right now, Bandra Terminus manages about 23 trains daily with just three pit lines. With the new ones coming in phases—one in February, another in March, and the last in May 2025—they’ll be able to double their capacity. That means they can check and maintain up to nine more trains each day.
This expansion is part of a bigger plan by Western Railway to improve the infrastructure for Vande Bharat trains and enhance passenger services. It’ll also help ease the load at Mumbai Central’s maintenance facility.
Bandra Terminus is a key hub in the city, connecting to various regions, including the northwest and central parts of India, like Uttar Pradesh.
