Mumbai: So, there’s this BMC officer who got himself into some serious trouble. A special anti-corruption court just turned down his bail request. This guy, Mandar Tari, is in hot water for allegedly asking for a ₹2 crore bribe.
He was on the run for a bit but finally gave himself up after his anticipatory bail plea was shot down by the Bombay High Court. Once he surrendered, the Anti-Corruption Bureau swooped in and took him into custody.
The whole mess started when a property owner named Goldie Sood filed a complaint. Tari had issued a notice to Sood about some supposed unauthorized construction on his property. Then, out of the blue, he demanded ₹2 crore to keep things quiet.
Sood didn’t just sit back; he went to the ACB for help. They helped him negotiate, and they settled on ₹75 lakh to be paid to two guys acting on Tari’s behalf. The ACB caught those guys during a sting operation back in August, but Tari managed to slip away at that time.
As the investigation rolled on, the ACB discovered that Tari owns several properties, which raised even more eyebrows about his finances. It’s a wild situation, and it looks like he’s in deep trouble now.
