Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is stepping up to ensure that the food we eat is safe and clean. They’ve teamed up with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to kick off a training program for food vendors. This is all about teaching them the ropes on food safety and hygiene.

The first training session took place on Wednesday at the K East Division Office in Andheri (East). Over 50 food vendors showed up to learn about personal hygiene, keeping their vending spots clean, and safe food handling. It’s crucial stuff, especially when it comes to keeping our food safe.

Recently, BMC signed an agreement with FSSAI to make sure that around 10,000 licensed food vendors in Mumbai follow strict food safety rules. This training is a big part of that effort. The Deputy Commissioner, Chanda Jadhav, and other officials were there to guide the vendors through the process.

During the session, they really stressed the importance of food safety and keeping food outlets clean. Vendors learned how to prepare, handle, and store food properly to avoid any health risks. They also got tips on managing waste effectively to keep everything tidy.

This training is just the beginning. It’s part of a year-long program that will happen regularly across different Municipal Corporation Ward Offices. Vendors will keep getting support to ensure they provide fresh and safe food to everyone in Mumbai.

At the end of the training, vendors will receive certificates from FSSAI, showing they’ve met the food safety standards. It’s a great step towards making sure we all enjoy safe meals!
