Mumbai: So, here’s the scoop. The CBI is diving into a pretty wild case where a guy living in the US found out his Bank of Baroda account was turned into a joint account without him even knowing. Can you believe that? The accused is from Kalbadevi, and they pulled this off without any consent from the actual account holder.
What’s even crazier is that this account was moved around to different branches, like Zaveri Bazaar and even Badlapur and Nandanvan in Nagpur, all thanks to some forged application. It’s like a bad movie plot!
According to the CBI, a whopping ₹37.50 lakh was taken out of this account using cheques from the Nandanvan branch between August 2023 and February 2024. That’s a serious chunk of change!
They started looking into this back in November last year. They even had a video call with the original account holder, who’s been living in California since 2000. He hasn’t set foot in India since October 2019, and they confirmed that with his passport details.
The guy had opened his account at the Siyaganj branch in Indore way back in 1987. He was making regular deposits and withdrawals until 2019. But from 2020 to January 2023, he only put money in. Then, out of nowhere, on August 8, 2023, his account was turned into a joint account with someone he doesn’t even know!
The CBI also talked to a senior bank official at Zaveri Bazaar, who said that both account holders need to be present to make such changes. So, it’s looking like a big mess!
