Mumbai: So, there’s been quite a stir in Breach Candy lately. The BMC has hit the brakes on building an underground parking lot at Amarsons. Why? Well, the locals are really not happy about it. They’re worried about traffic getting even worse, especially on Bhulabhai Desai Road.

Residents have even reached out to Cabinet Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, asking for some help. They want the parking lot either moved or the exit changed to Nepean Sea Road to ease the traffic mess.

This underground parking is part of a bigger plan along the Mumbai Coastal Road, which aims to tackle parking issues. They’re looking to fit in 1,857 vehicles across four spots, including Amarsons, which is set to hold 245 cars in a two-story setup.

While they’re still working on the parking in Worli, the Amarsons site has faced a lot of pushback. A civic official mentioned that construction there is on hold for now. Nigum Lakhani from the Breach Candy Residents Forum pointed out that the new parking could really jam up traffic, especially since it’s so close to Bhulabhai Desai Road.

He noted that traffic jams are already a hassle near Mukesh Chowk, and adding more cars to the mix isn’t going to help. Plus, the digging has raised concerns about sea water seeping in, so the BMC has set up dewatering pumps to deal with that.

The residents even sent a report to the chief engineer in charge of the Coastal Road project, highlighting their worries. They’re asking for no access from Bhulabhai Desai Road to keep traffic flowing, and they want to avoid any noisy activities or water-wasting lawns at the site.
