Mumbai: So, the BMC is finally moving to grab this six-acre piece of land in Lower Parel. This comes after the Supreme Court made a ruling about it. They confirmed that the land actually belongs to the BMC and turned down Century Textiles’ request to take it over.

Just the other day, some civic officials checked out the site to see what condition it’s in. Apparently, this land is valued at around Rs. 660 crores, according to the latest rates. It’s a pretty big area, about 30,550 square meters, and it was leased out ages ago, back in 1927, to help house workers.

They built a bunch of rooms and shops on it, but the lease ended in 1955. After that, the land was supposed to go back to the BMC. But instead of giving it back, Century Mill tried to keep it and even took the matter to the Bombay High Court.

Initially, the High Court sided with them, but the BMC wasn’t having it. They took the case to the Supreme Court, which put a hold on the High Court’s decision. After a few more hearings, the Supreme Court finally ruled in favor of the BMC, saying the land is theirs.

Now that the legal stuff is sorted, BMC officials are on it. They’re starting the process to officially acquire the land. A civic official mentioned that they plan to use it to build homes for those in need. Sounds like a good move, right?
