Mumbai: So, here’s the scoop. The Anti Corruption Bureau, or ACB, has just registered a case against a police sub-inspector named Dnyanesh Yegde from Dongri. He’s in hot water for allegedly asking for a bribe of ₹2.7 lakh.
What happened was that a guy went to the Dongri police station because his brother got arrested under some serious drug laws. When he got there, Yegde told him that if his brother was charged with a larger amount, he could be looking at seven to eight years in jail. Yikes!
To avoid that, Yegde asked for a bribe. Initially, he wanted ₹3 lakh, but after some back and forth, he settled for ₹2.7 lakh. The complainant wasn’t having any of it, though. Instead of paying up, he went straight to the ACB and filed a complaint.
On October 16, the ACB looked into it and found enough evidence to back the complainant’s claims. They decided to take action against Yegde under the Prevention of Corruption Act. It’s a pretty big deal, and it shows that they’re serious about tackling corruption in the police force.
