If you’re a parent, you know how tough it is to see your kids feeling sick. Even a simple cold can be really hard on them and on you too.
So, there’s this mum named Madina, who’s got a bit of a following on TikTok. She’s known as the ‘Mum hack guru’ and she recently shared her five go-to tips for when her kids are under the weather.
First up, she freezes a big bowl of water until it’s solid. Then, she puts it in her child’s room to help cool the air. It’s supposed to make breathing a bit easier.
Next, she applies a thin layer of iodine solution to the bottom of her child’s foot. Iodine is usually used for cuts and scrapes to keep infections at bay. But, there’s no real proof that it works when applied to the foot like that.
Then, she grabs some baby-safe vapor rub. Instead of putting it directly on her son, she puts a bit in a candle and lights it up. It’s a creative idea, but some folks think it’s a bit risky.
Finally, she takes a sock, fills it with rice, and microwaves it to make a homemade heating pad. She then places it in the crib with her baby. While the video got a lot of views, not everyone was on board with her methods.
One viewer pointed out that using a candle is pretty unsafe and suggested using a humidifier instead. Another chimed in about the rice, saying to avoid instant rice because it can catch fire in the microwave.
Someone else even suggested maybe just going for some medicine or seeing a doctor instead.
It’s a good reminder that while home remedies can be tempting, it’s always best to check with a healthcare professional if your child is feeling unwell.
