Teesside: So, there’s this mum, Kelly Kitchen, who got slapped with a £100 fine for parking a bit over the line. She was just trying to get her newborn twins out of the car safely. Can you believe that?

She was shopping and found no parent and child spaces available. To get her boys out, she had to open both rear doors wide, which meant she crossed into the next parking bay just a tad. Totally understandable, right?

Kelly tried to appeal the fine, explaining her situation, but they turned her down. She mentioned that this isn’t the first time it’s happened. Last time, in a Durham car park, they waived the fine after she explained what happened.

On December 5, she was at Teesside Park with her 12-week-old twins, Jesse and Joey. The place was packed, and she had no choice but to park a little over the line to get the car seats out of her Toyota RAV4.

She’s been in touch with Teesside Park management and the enforcement company, Minster Baywatch, but they just won’t budge on the fine. It’s frustrating for her, and she feels like she’s going in circles trying to get help.

Kelly pointed out that there aren’t enough parent and child spaces at Teesside Park, and the ones that are there aren’t wide enough for easy access. She said, “I can’t be the only one facing this issue.”

She added that it’s a problem everywhere, not just at Teesside Park. Those bulky car seats make it tough to get the kids out without opening the doors wide. It’s something she never thought about before becoming a mum.

A spokesperson for Teesside Park said their car park is managed by Minster Baywatch and that they have systems in place to keep spaces available for families. They do have dedicated parent and child spaces, but it seems like it’s not enough.
