Mum Realizes She Lost Everything to Scammers After Netflix Won’t Work
A mother discovered she had been scammed after losing access to her online accounts and funds

Edinburgh: A mum named Leanne Cherrie was in for a shock when she couldn’t log into her Netflix. She soon found out that scammers had taken over her online accounts.
At first, she got some strange messages from friends about her Facebook account. That’s when the panic kicked in. She realized she couldn’t access Netflix, Disney+, or even her son’s Xbox. To make matters worse, her bank account was wiped clean.
Leanne, 36, told EdinburghLive that she had been using the same passwords everywhere, which made it easy for the scammers to get in. She described the whole situation as a “complete living nightmare.”
On January 2, she tried to turn on the TV for her son but couldn’t get into any of her subscriptions. When she tried to log in, it said her email didn’t have an account. She knew that wasn’t true.
She attempted to reset her passwords, but the email had already been changed. To top it off, the scammers even took money meant for her little boy after his dad passed away.
Leanne admitted it was her fault for not being more careful. Now, she’s left with just 33p in her bank account and has had to rely on food banks and apply for help from the council.
She had to shut down her bank account, saying it’s been a terrible start to the year. She hopes no one else has to go through what she did.
A spokesperson from Police Scotland mentioned that they received a report on January 3 about a woman’s social media and bank accounts being hacked. They are currently investigating.
Last year, a pensioner named Harold Richardson shared his own scam story. He lost £4,000 to a convincing phone scam where someone pretended to be from Microsoft.
Harold was tricked into giving the scammer access to his computer, which led to them stealing his personal information. He eventually got most of his money back, but it took a lot of time and caused him a lot of stress.
